Built on the plain of Upper Messinia, Zevigolatio is known for its pasteli, which has been produced continuously in the area since 1920. At that time the village was an important hub and the pasteli was offered cut into rhombuses to passers-by and train passengers, who enjoyed it while waiting for the train to take them to their destination.

Today the village has about 350 permanent residents and a large market that runs along its main street, where the village church dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is located. Finally, pasteli is still one of the most popular products available in the Greek market.
