Agios Nikolaos is a wonderful fishing village, also known as Selinitsa, which according to tradition, means little Moon or little Helen, as Paris anchored his ship on the coast and stole the beautiful Helen. With its characteristic small harbour full of boats, the cobbled streets with traditional-style newly built houses and impressive neoclassical buildings, it is full of life in the summer season, making it a popular holiday destination.
On the small picturesque beach of the village, with fine sand next to the mouth of the river Pamisos (also known as the river of Milia), is the ancient Pephnos and opposite it the homonymous islet where, according to legend, the Dioscuri were born. Fishing, hiking and cycling along the coastal road are some of the activities offered to visitors, while the churches of Agios Myronas and Agios Nikolaos, from which the settlement takes its modern name, are also a sight to behold.
