Polihni is a small village of great archaeological importance, as it is the site of the centre of the ancient city of Andania. In the place Kamares two large plaques were found in the 19th century on which are written the sacred laws of the rituals of the Carnatic Mysteries of Andania, the second most important religious ceremony of antiquity after the Eleusinian Mysteries. These tablets are today embedded in the entrance of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in the neighbouring village of Konstantinoi.

According to Pausanias, in the area of ancient Andania there was a spring and a statue dedicated to Agnes, the daughter of Demeter, led to an archaeological excavation in the reservoir at the site of Divari in Polichni, which revealed remains of an almost completely destroyed aqueduct of Late Roman times. Polichni, which today has about 150 inhabitants, is surrounded by olive groves and fertile land where cereals and vines are grown.
