Ano Dorio is a settlement of the Regional Unit of Messinia in the Peloponnese and is administratively part of the Municipality of Oichalia. It is built at an altitude of 613 meters, with a population of 159 inhabitants according to the 2011 census.
Until 1912, the settlement was known as Soulima, and from 1912 to 1927 as Ano Soulima, separating it from Kato Soulima, corresponding to today’s Dorio. The name Soulima comes from the Arvanite phrase “sull i madh,” meaning “high Souli,” referring to the Souliotes who settled in the area from Northern Epirus.
