Amfithea is a lowland settlement located in the area of Dorio at an altitude of 270 meters. The village is built at the foot of the mountain of Profitis Ilias opposite the western side of the mountain “Krioderi” and overlooks the plain of Koprinitsa and Dorio. The settlement is characterized by its fertile fields, which are home to orchards, olive trees and vineyards.

Most of the houses are built in the traditional architectural style, many of which date back to before 1700, consisting of mansions with hewn stones, high stone courtyard mantles and curved front doors.

Its first name was ‘Kleisoria’, meaning ‘Kleisoura’, which means a narrow passage between the mountains, and it is worth noting that the settlement in its current location was traditionally established a few years before the Greek Revolution in 1821. The location justifies the name of the village, because it is the only crossing between the passage of the two mountains that closes the mountain range for the areas of Gliata and Upper Messinia.
