Tsoukalayika is built on a fertile plain, just below the mountain range of Kokkinovrachos. The oldest name of the village is Skaloriza and it was probably built on the mountain, but around 1800 the inhabitants moved down to the present, more easily accessible location.

The area was probably named after the first settlers, the Tsoukalades. On their new picturesque square you will find the cafes and shops of the village, while olive presses operate in the vast olive groves, where visitors can browse and learn about the beneficial properties of olive oil. In Tsoukalayika, grapes and vegetables are also produced.
