Mila is a small historical settlement with various findings confirming that the village has been inhabited since Mycenaean times and has been known by this name since 1690. The area, however, is better known because the smaller settlement of Rama or Ramovouni, where Theodoros Kolokotronis was born on 3 April 1770, was located there during the Turkish occupation.
An imposing equestrian statue of the Old Man of Moria was placed in 2007 on the spot where tradition says he was born, under an oak tree. At a distance of 2-3 km northeast of Mila is the Castle of Mila , near the present-day settlement of Kastro. This fortress was built in the Frankish era; it is in relatively good condition and the view from the place where it is built is spectacular.
