Kouvelas is a beautiful picturesque village with lush vegetation and gushing waters, as it is located near the river Neda. The village, due to its location, is ideal for endless nature activities such as cycling, hiking, crossing the river Neda etc.
The settlement probably got its name from the kuvelia, which are containers for the honey produced in the area. Its inhabitants are descended from Arvanites who arrived in the Peloponnese between the 14th and 15th centuries and come from the mountain village of Liopesi, which was located at an altitude of 900 metres. Indeed, it is said that the first settlers of Kouvela found a spring of water in the area and decided to build their houses there. From them the two areas of the village were created, Dendoruga, east of the old fountain, and Kordoruga to the west.
