The chestnut forest of Abeliona is one of the largest and oldest chestnut forests in the Peloponnese. The hiker walks under century-old chestnut trees, with trunks carved by the years. The oldest of them, apparently many centuries old, are awe-inspiring with their huge trunks and their persistent vitality. The chestnut forest, an important element of the livelihood of the villagers, is also an important habitat with many rare plant species.

It challenges the visitor to leave the path to explore it. After the chestnut tree area, the trail passes through the oak tree area. The century-old oaks, threshing floors, old fields with dry stone walls, wonderful light and the distant sounds of bells from a herd of goats and sheep give the place a unique atmosphere, making it ideal for walking and rejuvenation.
